With temperatures in the high 80s and 90 on Monday and Tuesday, cooling centers are opening up across the state.
Whether you need a place to catch a break from the intense heat and humidity while you’re in town, or you don’t have a cool space of your own to retreat to, there are a number of areas with air conditioning that will be open to the public across the state throughout the beginning of the week.
While high temperatures are typical this time of year, the heat wave is accompanied by high humidity, and will make it feel like over 100 degrees in some areas.
Prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity can cause serious health issues like heat stroke and difficulty breathing. Anyone that must be outside during hot and humid conditions are advised to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks from working or being outside.
