BALDWIN PARK, Calif. — May 31, 2025 A tense and chaotic scene unfolded Saturday evening in Baldwin Park, where two police officers were shot and hospitalized following a confrontation with a suspect in a residential neighborhood.
The incident occurred around 7:21 p.m. on the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue, when officers responded to a call in the area. Authorities have not yet disclosed the nature of the call or what led up to the shooting, but gunfire broke out shortly after officers arrived on scene.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, both officers sustained injuries and were immediately transported to USC Medical Center for treatment. One of the officers was airlifted from the scene by Air Rescue 5, while the other was taken by ground ambulance. Their conditions and the extent of their injuries have not been officially released.
The shooting prompted a massive law enforcement response. SWAT teams, armed officers, and numerous patrol units quickly converged on the neighborhood. A home was surrounded by police, with officers seen aiming their firearms at a location where the suspect was believed to be barricaded. Overhead, helicopters circled as authorities worked to secure the area.
As of late Saturday night, it remains unclear if the suspect has been apprehended, and law enforcement officials have not confirmed whether the situation remains active. Streets around the scene have been cordoned off, and residents are being urged to stay indoors as the investigation continues.
