Known for her quiet strength and deep commitment to literature and education, Alexa’s passing marks the end of a life rich in purpose and profoundly rooted in community values.


Born and raised in Washington Heights, Alexa’s life was deeply intertwined with the neighborhood’s vibrant culture. Her connection to the community shaped her lifelong passion for storytelling and the arts. A graduate of Manhattan University, she studied Literature and English from 1991 to 1995—a period she often described as pivotal in her personal and intellectual development. During these formative years, Alexa refined her writing, developed a profound appreciation for language, and began to understand literature as a bridge across cultural and generational divides.


Alexa’s love for reading was not limited to academia. She was an avid reader whose personal library included works by Toni Morrison, Gabriel García Márquez, and James Baldwin. Friends recall that her conversations were often peppered with literary references, and she had an exceptional talent for making complex ideas accessible through clear and compassionate dialogue. Her ability to listen with empathy and speak with insight made her an anchor in many lives.
