Michigan Man Sentenced to 12 Months in Jail for Racist Assault on Black Postal Worker Over Kamala Harris Flyers

Michigan – A 62-year-old Michigan man, Russell Valleau, has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for a racially charged assault against a Black U.S. postal worker in September 2024. The incident occurred after Valleau became enraged over receiving political mailers promoting Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to federal prosecutors, Valleau approached the postal worker, who was seated in her official postal vehicle, and launched into an aggressive verbal attack.

He reportedly expressed anger over the mailers, stating he did not want that “Black b— in my mailbox,” and hurled multiple racist slurs at the postal employee.

When the carrier attempted to de-escalate the situation by explaining that he could simply discard the mail if he didn’t want it, Valleau escalated the confrontation. As she asked him to back away from her vehicle, Valleau allegedly lunged at her with a knife.

The postal worker was able to defend herself using USPS-issued mace, spraying Valleau in the face and escaping the scene in her vehicle.
