TRIPLE SHOOTING IN COLUMBIA, TN LEAVES ONE DEAD, ANOTHER CRITICALLY INJURED — SUSPECT IN CUSTODY AS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES
COLUMBIA, TN – A quiet afternoon in a Columbia neighborhood was shattered by gunfire on Saturday as police responded to a triple shooting on Somerset Lane, just after 3:00 p.m.
The incident has left the community in shock, as one man was pronounced dead at the scene and another remains in critical condition at a Nashville hospital.
According to Columbia Police Captain Brian Adams, officers arrived to find three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, 46-year-old John Bidle was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
A second victim, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition. The third victim, believed to have less severe injuries, is reportedly stable, though officials have not confirmed their condition publicly.
Within hours of the incident, Columbia police arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s name or details surrounding the motive, but confirmed that this appears to be an isolated event.
The area around Somerset Lane was immediately secured as detectives began their investigation, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses. Police tape cordoned off several homes on the street, and officers could be seen canvassing the neighborhood for information late into the evening.
While the circumstances that led to the shooting are still unclear, investigators are expected to release more information as the case develops. Residents of the community expressed concern but also relief knowing a suspect was in custody.
