15-Year-Old Boy Convicted of Fatally Stabbing Fellow Student in Sheffield School Incident

 

A 15-year-old student has been found guilty of murdering another teenager during a violent incident at a secondary school in Sheffield.

The victim, Harvey Willgoose, also aged 15, died after being stabbed in the chest with a hunting knife at All Saints Catholic High School during the lunch break on 3 February. The knife pierced his heart and caused fatal injuries.

The attack followed an earlier dispute between the two boys during a morning lesson, according to evidence presented during a month-long trial at Sheffield Crown Court.


The accused, whose name cannot be disclosed due to legal restrictions on identifying minors, had previously admitted to manslaughter and carrying a knife. However, he denied murder. The jury reached a majority verdict of 11 to 1, finding him guilty of murder.


Emotional reactions were heard in the courtroom after the verdict, with Harvey's family expressing relief and sorrow from the public gallery.


The judge, Justice Ellenbogen, stated that sentencing would take place in October.


Jurors were told that tensions had been building between the two teenagers in the days before the incident, including arguments on social media. 


The conflict was linked to a wider dispute involving other pupils, which had led to a brief lockdown at the school just days before the fatal stabbing.


During the trial, CCTV footage from the school courtyard was shown, capturing the moment the attacker approached Harvey shortly after midday. 

The two appeared to exchange words before the defendant suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed Harvey in the chest, breaking a rib and causing deadly injuries
