Local Protests Erupt Over Home Office Plans to House Male Asylum Seekers in Surrey Hotel
A wave of protests has taken place outside a Surrey hotel following controversial proposals by the Home Office to accommodate single male asylum seekers at the site.
Both the local council—Spelthorne Borough Council—and community members have voiced firm opposition to the plan. In response, the government has paused the proposal for now, though it has not been completely withdrawn.
Tensions at the protest scenes have already resulted in two arrests. One individual was detained on suspicion of attempted arson, while another is facing allegations of conspiracy to incite violent disorder and aggravated trespass.
